From a single mother to a successful woman, Ms. Yu has rewritten her own life and helped many helpless single parents with her unparalleled perseverance and firm belief in self-reliance. She pays particular attention to the well-being of women, children, single-parent families, and disadvantaged communities. She has contributed a lot to the social welfare sector. She was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2003, was appointed as Justice of the Peace in 2007, and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2011 by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to the recognition of her significant contributions to the community. Ms. Yu was also awarded an Honorary Fellow by Lingnan University in 2020.  She also served the Association as Honorary Treasurer from 2012 to 2016.

Dr Timothy Brimmer

Honorary Advisor

Dr. Timothy Brimmer is a highly accomplished and respected educator, musician, and scholar. He held the positions of Director of Vocal Jazz Activities and Director of Multisensory at Butler University. With a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in Jazz Studies from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a Master of Music (MM) degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, Dr. Brimmer brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his roles at Butler University.

As the Director of Vocal Jazz Activities, Dr. Brimmer led the vocal jazz program at Butler University. In addition to his work in vocal jazz, Dr. Brimmer also served as the Director of Multisensory at Butler University, responsible for the design and direction of the Multisensory Learning Facility, a multimedia-rich facility that supports teaching and learning in the arts.

Dr. Brimmer’s expertise extends beyond Butler University, and is recognised as an Apple Distinguished Educator, highlighting his innovative use of technology in education.

Professor Chan Wai Kwong, Victor

Honorary Advisor

Victor Chan is an active composer, conductor and contemporary music promoter. He has produced over 200 works to date, ranging from opera, orchestral music, to numerous chamber works, choral pieces and songs, many of which are published and released on CD. Victor Chan’s music has been performed in many parts of the world and has officially represented Hong Kong on various international occasions. These include the Manhattan Music Festival, the Tanglewood Contemporary Music Festival, the Amsterdam International Composers Festival, and the annual festivals and conferences of the ISCM, the ACL, the IFCM, and the UNESCO IRC, etc. across the past 30 years. Major works of him include commissions for the 1997 Hong Kong Reunification, the Annual Meetings of the WBG/IMF, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, etc. For twelve consecutive years since 1993, Victor Chan served as vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild. From 1997 to 2000 he was appointed as Composer-in-Residence of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In the year 1998, he was granted the ‘Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award’. Victor Chan joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989 and was former College Dean of General Education, former Programme Director of MA in Music. He is now serving as Professor of the Music Department, and Head of the Chung Chi College.

Dr Allison So Ming Chuen

Allison So graduated from the Royal College of Music in London. He obtained the Bachelor of Music from University of London, Master of Music and Diploma in Advanced Music Studies from University of Reading, Master of Art in Chinese Culture from HK Polytechnic University, and Doctor of Education from University of Leicester.
In the music field, apart from his busy schedule as soloist, accompanist and choral conductor in Hong Kong, Dr So had performed widely in many cities in China, England, Israel, Belgium, Australia, Canada, the United States, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan. His performances include works of a wide range, and he is keen in promoting contemporary music with a number of premier performances. He was invited twice by the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to give organ recitals, and guest host for various radio programmes for RTHK. In 2013, he was one of the cast and pianist for the musical This is My Story, This is My Song – The Life and Songs of Fanny Crosby. He is also a columnist in newspapers, magazines, as well as publishing academic journal articles.
Dr. So had conducted various choral groups and orchestras, including Tien Ai Chorus in Beijing, Han Sing Chorus in Kaohsiung, Hong Kong Oratorio Society, Allegro Singers, Chang Feng Chorus, Learners Chorus, Good Hope School Choir, Hong Kong Children’s Choir, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Macau Chamber Orchestra and Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra.
Dr So taught at the Hong Kong Baptist University and The Education University of Hong Kong for many years. At present, he is Supervisor of the Hong Kong Music Institute, Artistic Advisor of Centre of Culture and Art in Zhongshan, Music Advisor of the Yun-On County Education Bureau in Guangdong Province, Music Advisor of The Ordinary Chamber Music Education Centre in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province, vice-chairman of Hong Kong International Musician Association (Hong Kong Region), and vice-chairman of the Sacred Music Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.

Betty Tham

Fung Pui Ling, Betty read her Master of Music Education at the Hong Kong Education University. Fung has been in the field of Music Education and Choral Verse-speaking Education for more than 40 years, training school choirs and choral verse-speaking teams, where she implements her choral education belief of nurturing students, who through music and performing arts can be independent, intellectual and reflective leaders with great passion for arts as well as being mindful of their responsibilities and contribution to society. Fung has performed with her choir in different places, including Europe, Canada, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. Under her guidance, her choirs have won numerous awards in local and overseas choral competitions and speech festivals, including the award of the Gold Prize in the 5th and 6th World Choir Games and Gold Award in the Vocal Ensemble of Hong Kong International Youth and Children Choir Festival 2011. As Arts Education Consultant of different schools in Hong Kong, Fung gives workshops and seminars to students and teachers, especially in choir training and choral verse-speaking  

Fung was the Honorary Supervisor of the Hong Kong Education University Choral Partnership School & Community Project until 2020 and is now the Music Director and Programme Consultant of Hong Kong Choral Project, and the Honorary Choral & Artistic Director of Festive Chamber Choir.

Dr Joyce Chun developed her music interest with lessons in piano, cello and hand chimes in her  early age and was actively involved in her school choir training where she explored and reflected upon the value of choral singing training.

In 2010, she further enhanced her belief in choral singing and helped found Festive

Chamber Choir, a community Choir that provided a platform for young choral singing lovers from all walks of life to serve the society with their music talents and to enjoy singing as one family. Since then, Dr Chun has been generous in supporting the regular rehearsal venue for Festive Chamber Choir and a joint community choral singing project in Tin Shui Wai .

Dr Allison So Ming Chuen

Dr So has been active in the music scene for many years. He was invited twice by the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to give organ recitals and as guest host for various radio programmes. In 2013, he was one of the cast and pianist for the musical This is My Story, This is My Song –The Life and Songs of Fanny Crosby

He is also a columnist in newspapers, magazines, as well as publishing journal articles and editing books. He is one of the authors of the book Huang Zi’s Choral Literature Collection published by Longman in 2004; and featured as pianist for a CD recording on selected songs by Huang Zi, produced by Hugo in 2011. He also composed sacred music for the Catholic liturgy.

At present, Dr So is the supervisor of the Hong Kong Music Institute, music director and conductor of Educator Singers, Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong International Musician Association – Hong Kong Region, music advisor of the YunOn County Education Bureau, Guangdong Province, China, honorary head of piano of The Ordinary Chamber Music Education Centre in Guangxi Province, China, and vice-chairman of the Sacred Music Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.

Annie Yuen

Pianist

Born and raised in Hong Kong, pianist Annie Yuen received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Music with first class honors from the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). She was named the winner of HKBU Annual Concerto Competition performing Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto, and was given the Audience Choice Award. Later on she continued her study at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Manhattan School of Music (New York). Her piano teachers include Jeffrey Cohen, Nancy Loo and Carol Yu.

A keen chamber musician, Annie has rich experiences working with different musicians and chamber groups. She studied chamber music with Heasook Rhee and Gerald Robbins, worked at the studios of well-known instrumentalists in New York, and recorded live with local young artists for Radio & Television Hong Kong. In 2017, she joined the Castleman String Quartet Program as a collaborative pianist. There she met and worked with talented musicians of her age all over the world, and performed with the world-renowned violinist Charles Castleman and cellist Tom Landschoot. In the 2019/20 season, Annie performed with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in concerts as a keyboard player.

Also a versatile soloist in various music styles, Annie performed in concerts featuring a collection of piano preludes by Russian composers in 2018, and she showcased Andalusian piano works by Albéniz and Turina in concerts in 2019. She was also a regular solo pianist on an Asian-based cruise line in late 2021, bringing to life classical works as well as jazz and movie music. Besides piano, Annie also plays the organ, passed LTCL (recital) with distinction and has performed in Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Alvin Chu

Composer and Audio Designer

Born in Hong Kong, CHU graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree in 2019 under Prof. Clarence Mak. He is currently studying in the Central Conservatory of Music for a Master Degree in music composition under Prof. Guo Wenjing.

CHU is interested in a wide range of compositions, from Western instrumental solo, chamber and wind band music to Chinese instrumental chamber and orchestral music. His works are often performed by local music groups, including “HONG KONG Gaudeamus Ensemble”, “Festive Chamber”, “(The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts) Academy Wind Orchestra”, “The Greeners’ Sound”, “Yue Pipa Ensemble”, “Psalm Wind Orchestra”, “Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra”, “RedBricks Harmonica Ensemble”etc. In 2018, he was commissioned by the Consulate General of Israel in Hong Kong and Macau to write a piano solo piece “Wane of the Moon” for young Israel pianist Nabeel Hayek.

CHU is also interested in Sound Design, ranging from location recording to live audio. Sound design works including “The 3rd Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo Theatrical Performance – Gaudeamus Dunhuang: the Heavenly Music of Pureland Concert”, “The 4th Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival – “The Belt and Road Imitative” Performance Week – Dunhuang, Resonance of Silk Road Past and Present Concert”, “A World within Strokes and Sounds” Online Concert” etc.

Log G Cheng

Percussionist

Log G Cheng’s musical journey began at the tender age of seven as a percussion student, later establishing himself as a principal percussionist with the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra. His talent and dedication led to tours across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and China, showcasing his versatility and passion for music. Currently, he continues to perform with the Hong Kong Festival Winds Orchestra and leads the percussion section in Festive Chamber, where his percussive expertise shines.
